Completely cynical and Completely romantic.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) find the perfect love in each other. But soon they realize that it can't work out...Clementine thinks that Joel is very boring and after a breakup, Clementine hires Lacuna Inc. to erase Joel from her memory.

Lacuna Inc. offers services to completely erase an individual's memory of another person. The memories are distributed in many parts of the brain and are mapped to one or many events. They pick up selected memories starting from the most recent one about the other person and erase them completely.

Though I think if we want we can mutate our memory to be the way we want it to. Selective Memory…keep what’s important, blur out the rest.

Joel, in despair, also decides to undergo the same procedure, but midway he rediscovers his love for Clementine and wants to keep his precious memories. That’s where Kaufman's creativity comes alive. Attempting to save his memories of her, he imagines Clementine as a bystander in his childhood traumas and libraries suddenly turn into bedrooms and the bed is on the beach and houses instantly fill with sand.

The process deletes the story but not the emotions. A key suggestion is made that the couple might be doomed to repeat their mistakes again, fall in love again and go in for the same procedure again.

This is probably Jim Carrey’s best performance after the Truman Show. Kate Winslet looks amazing with her hair color changing in almost every scene…from green to blue to orange. And both of them together have a good on screen chemistry.

I would rate this movie a complete 10 out of 10. Not the usual love story but makes you think “How do you find true love in this world, and make it work in a lifetime?”

Resident Evil

<trackback:ping>http://www.romasha.com/services/trackbacks/169.aspx</trackback:ping>

Resident Evil, another movie based on a video game, though i must say i haven't ever played it. It is a zombie movie with not much story or dialogue and state-of-the-art high-tech weapons.

The movie is about an evil company named Umbrella Corporation who are making some kind of virus in the name of military research. The factory also called the Hive, where the research on the virus was being done, the virus in DNA shaped containers get dropped and the high level security seals the whole place and drowns and gasses everyone inside. Six investigators or was it seven, go down to see what happened and to shut down the main computer controlling the security which goes haywire. And after 60 mins the Hive would close all doors forever(defence mechanisms)...so the race against time.

Everyone in the Hive turns into a zombie after the virus leak and feed on flesh; if one of them bites you, it makes you a zombie too. There is also an ugly monster who mutates and has a long tongue, which ultimately worked against it as it was killed by nailing it on the floor of the train.

Milla Jovovich, is looking good, i still dont know her name in the movie...someone who has played the game might be able to help here.

There is one effect which is hair raising...thats when the team ventures into a corridor and the security is activated and laser beams are passed. One at head level, beheading one. The other beam at waist level slices the second into two. The last beam turns into a grid and dices the last man standing into several pieces...

I saw it at home and liked it quite a lot. Wouldve been better on the big screen though. I guess i kinda like such morbid movies...THe sequel Resident Evil: Apocalpse...gonna be in theatres sooon...that's gonna be more fun!!!

I, Robot...robots for the real world

<trackback:ping>http://www.romasha.com/services/trackbacks/150.aspx</trackback:ping>

Saw the movie I, Robot on Friday, first day last show and well it was the “dumbest dumb movie” i saw in a long time. It had most of the ingredients to make it a hit but more number of negatives to make it just another Hollywod sci-fi movie...and the first in the list would be the choice of Will Smith to play the lead and the script.

It's the year 2035 and robots have become an essential part of living along with the freaky gadgets and vehicles. The US Robotics head scientist Dr. Lanning commits suicide just before the largest shipment of robots. Mr. Smith is our detective investigating the case and he suspects rather believes a robot to have commited the crime who broke the 3 Laws of Robotics. But nobody bothers to listen to his warnings till the last few minutes of the movie and the robots do a great cleaning up job after tryin to kill him more than once.

The robots looked amazing delivering FedEx and serving beer with very impressive facial expressions(they had a red light turned “on” when they turned evil). The action is fast and crazy especially the chase in the tunnel with two trucks loaded with killer robots pouncing on Mr. Spooner(Smith) and they turn that Audi into a chunk of metal but ofcourse in all this action our detective defies death. Also the scene where an army of robots charges on the USR glass building and creates a havoc is a treat with amazing camera angle shots.

Will Smith as usual cannot do without his one liners adding a little humor, sometimes even when not required. His grandmother(i don't know her name) was cute though and so was the cat that he saves while a robot was trying to kill him.

Last Words: Just another sci-fi movie with a few spare million dollars spent on the CG with a bad story line. Inspite of all the flaws you should see it on the big screen atleast once to enjoy the effects and the blunder. Please dont go in there with any expectations at all. And now i ain't spending even a minute more on thinking about the movie.

Actually one last minute...the “good-real” robot -- Suny who had dreams, kept promises and also could make a choice between right and wrong raised one question the intrigued me, what is the purpose of living? how does one live if he doesnt know what he is supposed to do next and why is he here....
