The SyncNotes Revolution

It's that time of the year again. Funny, a year back we had launched SyncNotes v1.0 and we are approaching the first beta of SyncNotes v2.0 in the next few months. A complete rewrite of the original codebase has delayed the release of the beta time and again and though there is a lot of action happening here at Cynapse, there is very little that i can speak about publicly. I am waiting to burst out and talk about v2 to all the users who have been asking for updates and feature requests and bug fixes to v1, but i can't. All this makes it so hard to blog about SyncNotes v1.3!!

So I want to make you all SyncNotes users/fans, Syncizens as we call ourselves; Members of the SyncNotes community, very anxious about the next version. There is something though that i can share, the fact that v2 is a rocking product with a revolutionary backend and amazing features that would benefit your life to an unimaginable extent. Now, am I raising your expectations sky-high? Ouch, these non-disclosure agreements :(

Since I can't disclose much about the new version, lets settle to talking about SyncNotes v1.3. In a year we have had phenomenal response with many SyncNotes enthusiasts writing about us. We have had an excellent review on Lockergnome by Mitch Keeler, another one on Softonic.com and on PurePockets.com. Many people have blogged about SyncNotes, a lot of people have discussed SyncNotes in various forums and we were recently nominated for the PocketPCMag Awards. SyncNotes was even the subject of a case-study at INSEAD, Singapore. And it's a never ending list. But like other human beings we still want more, a lot more. So here is something that is going to be on my blog before you see it on the SyncNotes site. Yes, I am gonna violate the NDA and tell you about what's coming next.

We are soon gonna have a page for everyone who writes/blogs/reviews/rates and loves SyncNotes!! Yes, it is going to be dedicated to all the Syncizens and a tribute to their contribution towards making SyncNotes a buzz word and a successful product. And all the people who feel left out and want to be part of the SyncNotes revolution, this is your chance.

Here's a short excerpt of the long list of things you can do to spread SyncNotes

1. For starters, tell your friends and colleagues, how you use SyncNotes and how it's gonna benefit them and GET them to use SyncNotes.

2. If you have a blog or a site, use the SyncNotes buttons.

3. If you do a review or do a blog post about SyncNotes, we shall put it up on the site. Popularity for you!!

4. Use the SyncNotes button as a theme/background on your phone/PDA.

5. And if you are a graphics designer, make a button for SyncNotes and we might just make it an official one!

This is not all, there is gonna be much more, but for that you will have to keep watching either this blog or the SyncNotes website. So keep spreading the word and help SyncNotes become the number One note application! Cheers!

Knowledge v/s Information

In one of the vision discussions for SyncNotes, a very fundamental question was raised; what is the difference between Knowledge and Information. We had a big debate on defining the two terms, is knowledge a more encompassing term or are we just playing with words? So i decided to put down my thoughts about the same.

The major difference between Information and Knowledge, according to me is, data that is crude, bare and used to describe a situation is Information and information that has been accumulated and worked upon and is used to determine how to handle a situation is Knowledge.

Let me elaborate a little...

If i have a feature request for SyncNotes, i would describe that feature to Carl. I give him infomation about the feature, but Carl has the knowledge to write code and implement that feature into SyncNotes.

Knowledge according to me is a more encompassing term than Information. I also feel that there is more of a personal facet to this, as in one person's Knowledge may be another person's Information. Knowledge is applied Information; i.e. information with a sense of when and how to use it.

I am still tinkering with this issue and i would love inputs from all you readers.
